Dr. Georg Werner has been a lecturer at the University of Bayreuth since 2008. He studied law (with a focus on intellectual property) at the Technical University of Dresden. During his legal clerkship in Bayreuth, he was a research assistant and, after completing the assessor's examination, a research assistant at the chair of Prof. Dr. Ohly. Dr. Werner received his doctorate in 2007 on the civil and patent law topic of "Extraction and Patenting of Human Body Substances". Afterwards he worked as a lawyer in the field of intellectual property. He then switched to the judiciary, was appointed as a judge and was an associate judge of a patent litigation chamber at the Munich I District Court until October 2015. From October 2015 to October 2018, Dr. Werner was assigned as a research assistant to Civil Senate X (Patent Senate) of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe. After his return to the District Court, he was initially (again) deputy chairman of a patent litigation chamber. From March 2021 to January 2022, he was presiding judge of a chamber for commercial matters specializing in industrial property rights. Since August 2021, he has been presiding judge of a patent litigation chamber at Munich Regional Court I.
